A staircase is more than a connection

A wooden staircase has a timeless look and adds real visual value to any project. That is why we design every new staircase as part of the interior. The combination of the right wood type and a unique colour finish tunes the staircase to your style: classic, modern, industrial or contemporary.

Plus One Stairs is driven by an industrial designer and an engineer with a background in measuring techniques. You notice it in the details: seamless mitres, unbroken grain and a considered balance between stability and the strictly necessary amount of fine hardwood.

Which stair shape suits your space?

Comfort is in the treads

A good staircase walks itself. That requires equal rises and goings and an ergonomic distribution of the winders, so that you never step onto a tread that is too narrow in the turn. If you want a deeper going, you can choose Z-stairs: the tread sits at an 80° angle and gives more room for your foot.

Handrail and balustrade

A handrail or balustrade makes the staircase safe and helps define its character. A balustrade, a landing or other options can easily be added. Which design suits your staircase and interior best is something we discuss together at the design stage.

Finish and light

Colours that suit your floor perfectly: smoked, aged, lye-treated or oiled. And if you want the staircase to light up, you can choose integrated LED lighting, as in this staircase in afrormosia.

Custom or standard?

Not every project calls for full custom work. With our standard range you choose a new stair structure between two strings in oak or beech, in one of 6 standard colours. Efficiency never has to come at the expense of creativity, and custom work never has to be a compromise.

Questions

Questions about custom stairs

Can't find your question? Feel free to call or email us.

What is the difference between a winding staircase and a spiral staircase?
A winding staircase (quarter- or half-turn) turns in a corner, with a few winders. A spiral staircase turns fully around a central axis or in a circle. We make both to measure, including rounded curtail steps.
Which wood types are possible for a custom staircase?
Oak is the most popular wood type, but wenge, teak, padouk, larch, mahogany and almost all other wood types are possible too. See wood types and colours.
Can you also provide a handrail or balustrade?
Yes, a balustrade, a landing or other options can be added so that the staircase matches your wishes perfectly. We discuss the options when measuring.
Do you work with my architect?
Gladly. Demanding projects that call for craftsmanship and innovation are exactly where we excel. See also for architects and contractors.
