Renovating your staircase

Stair renovation: a second life for your staircase

Worn treads, a dated colour or a staircase that no longer suits your new floor? With a made-to-measure renovation, also called stair restoration, you get a staircase that looks like new, without replacing the structure.

  • Existing structure stays
  • Matched to your parquet
  • One point of contact

Renovate rather than replace

A staircase lasts a long time, but the finish wears. Flaking lacquer, scratches in the going, a colour that clashes with the new floor: often the structure itself is still perfectly sound. Then it is a shame to rip everything out. In a stair renovation we clad the existing staircase with new made-to-measure wooden treads. The staircase stays, the result is a completely new look.

Stair cladding, stair renovation or a completely new stair structure: at Plus One Stairs it is designed, calculated and built. That also means we tell you honestly when renovating is not the best choice.

How does a stair renovation work?

  • Discussion. We look at your staircase, the floor and your interior, and choose the wood type, colour and tread shape together.
  • Digital measuring. Every tread is measured precisely, even if your staircase is not quite square or even.
  • Production in the workshop. The treads are made to measure, with seamless mitres and a continuous grain.
  • Installation. Expertly installed and handed over neatly covered.

The floor and the staircase as one

The difference is in the junctions. A staircase that runs seamlessly into the landing and has the same tone as the parquet feels like a single design. That is why we work with colours that suit your floor or interior perfectly, and with wood types from oak to exotic woods such as wenge or teak. See the options under wood types and colours.

Stable, even after years

Solid wooden treads can warp or crack over time as the wood shrinks and swells. Our treads are engineered stair planks: a stable plywood core with a solid wood top layer. After correct installation in a home with a healthy indoor climate, this type of stair plank barely moves.

A tight budget? Then look at our standard range: oak or beech in 6 standard colours, with short lead times.

Questions

Questions about stair renovation

Can't find your question? Feel free to call or email us.

When should I choose renovation and when a new staircase?
If the existing structure is sound and the staircase sits well, renovating is usually the logical choice: you keep the structure and renew what you see. If the shape or the run of the staircase no longer works, or you are renovating thoroughly, a new stair structure may make more sense. We advise you honestly.
Can an open staircase be closed in?
On a staircase with treads and risers, each step is also finished in wood at the front, which gives a closed look. Whether that is possible on your staircase depends on the structure. Send us a photo and we will take a look.
Will my staircase be out of use for long?
Because the treads are digitally measured beforehand and made in the workshop, the work on site is limited to the installation. You receive a concrete estimate with the quote.
Can the new staircase tie in with my existing parquet?
Yes, that is precisely our strength. We match wood type and colour to your floor, and finish the junction with the landing and the floor seamlessly.
