Stair cladding

Wooden stair cladding, made to measure for your staircase

A concrete staircase, a rough site staircase or an old wooden staircase: we clad it with wooden treads that fit exactly and tie in seamlessly with your floor and interior.

  • Digitally measured
  • Seamless mitres
  • Colour matched to your floor

Your staircase, entirely as you want it

With wooden cladding, an existing staircase gets a completely new look. You keep the structure and gain a new, warm wooden staircase in its place. Whether it is a bare concrete staircase in a new build or a dated staircase in a renovation, the cladding determines how the staircase will look for a long time to come.

Plus One Stairs believes in a personal approach. Every project is carefully digitally measured beforehand, then produced in our workshop and expertly installed in your home. That way every tread fits, even on staircases that are never quite square or even.

Cladding a concrete staircase in wood

A roughly cast concrete staircase rarely has perfectly equal steps. That is why it is first levelled precisely, with perfectly equal rises and goings and an ergonomic distribution of the winders. The finishing layer is then bonded directly onto it over the full surface, which also benefits the acoustics: less of a hollow sound with every step.

Still building? Then a structural staircase during the shell phase is often the smartest base for the later cladding.

What do you choose for stair cladding?

  • Wood type. Oak is the most popular, but wenge, teak, padouk, larch or mahogany are possible too. Almost all wood types can be used.
  • Colour. Smoked, aged, charred, lye-treated, oiled or lacquered, matched to your parquet or interior.
  • Tread shape. The classic square tread or a Z-tread at 80°, for a deeper going.
  • Treads only, or treads with risers, with a nosing for a fully wooden look.
  • Options such as a landing, a balustrade or LED lighting.

Why not standard overlay treads?

Overlay treads from the DIY store are cut down and adjusted on site. That often leaves visible joints, an interrupted grain and sealant seams. Our treads are engineered stair planks with a solid wood top layer up to 30 cm wide from a single piece, joined to each other with tongue and groove. With us, seamless mitres are not an extra but the standard.

Prefer a sharp price quickly? Our standard range offers stair cladding in oak or beech, in 6 standard colours.

Questions

Questions about stair cladding

Can't find your question? Feel free to call or email us.

Which staircases can be clad?
Concrete staircases, rough site staircases and existing wooden staircases are the most common. On a rough concrete staircase we first level the rises and goings, so that the cladding can be bonded over the full surface. If in doubt, we look at your staircase together.
What is the difference between treads only and treads with risers?
With treads only we clad the going of each step. Adding a riser (the vertical board) means the whole staircase is finished in wood, with a nosing at the front of the tread.
How long does installation take?
That depends on the staircase and the preparation. Because everything is digitally measured beforehand and the treads are made to measure in the workshop, the work on site is limited to expert installation. You receive a concrete schedule with the quote.
Can the colour be matched to my parquet?
Yes. Colours that suit your floor or interior perfectly are a matter of course at Plus One Stairs. A sample or photo of your floor helps to choose the right tone.
Is stair cladding the same as overlay treads?
The principle is the same: new treads over an existing staircase. The difference is in the finish. We measure every staircase digitally and make every tread to measure, with seamless mitres and a continuous grain, instead of standard overlay treads that are adjusted on site.
