Our standard colours on oak and on beech

The same finish looks different on oak than on beech. That is why we show the two palettes separately. Colours on a screen are indicative; a sample in your home, next to your floor, gives the true picture.

Wood types

Besides oak, the most common choice, you can also opt for a more exotic wood type: wenge, teak, padouk, larch, mahogany. Almost all wood types are possible. Oak remains popular because it is strong, has a beautiful grain and takes almost any shade, from very light to nearly black.

Colours and artisanal finishing

A whole range of artisanal finishing methods lets us achieve the most refined colour shades:

  • Smoking
  • Ageing
  • Chemical treatment
  • Charring
  • Lye treatment
  • Oiling
  • Lacquering

Colours that match your floor or interior perfectly are a matter of course for us. Working with natural products is not a challenge but an asset: with continuous grain and unique pieces.

The “plus one” of an engineered stair plank

At Plus One Stairs the treads are made from engineered wooden stair planks. The stair plank consists of a stable plywood core with a solid wood top layer. That construction gives more stability, makes wider and longer planks possible and is more durable than fully solid stair planks.

Stability

Under the influence of a changing indoor climate and the constant shrinking and swelling of wood, fully solid treads can warp or crack over time. Our engineered stair planks are specially designed to prevent that. After correct installation in a home with a healthy indoor climate, this type of stair plank barely moves.

Sustainable

Wood is a precious material. Only the strictly necessary thickness of fine wood is used for the solid top layer, and the wood comes from sustainably managed forests. The result: stair cladding that is beautiful and has a minimal impact on the environment.

Seamless down to the smallest detail

The treads are joined to each other with a tongue-and-groove joint, for a seamless end result. The stair planks are available up to 30 cm wide from a single piece of top layer, so the grain comes into its own. Every tread is unique, with its own story.

Wood grade

The engineered stair planks are available as standard in the bis rustic A grade, which may contain small knots of up to 20 mm.

Questions

Questions about wood and finishes

Can't find your question? Feel free to call or email us.

Which wood type is chosen most often for a staircase?
Oak. You can also opt for a more exotic wood type such as wenge, teak, padouk, larch or mahogany. Almost all wood types are possible.
What does bis rustic A mean?
That is the standard grade of our engineered stair planks: a beautiful, lively wood quality that may contain small knots of up to 20 mm.
Is an engineered stair plank of lower quality than solid wood?
On the contrary. The solid wood top layer gives the look of solid wood, the plywood core provides stability. Solid treads can warp or crack through shrinking and swelling; this build-up barely moves after correct installation in a healthy indoor climate.
Can I see a sample?
