Z-stairs: a deeper going, a cleaner profile
A square tread or a Z-shape after all? On Z-stairs every tread sits at 80°. You get more room for your foot and a staircase that looks like a sculpture from the side.
- Tread at 80°
- Deeper, more comfortable going
- Straight or winding

Square or Z-shape?
The most common tread is the square tread: tread and riser sit at right angles to each other. On a Z-tread the tread sits at an 80° angle. That pushes the front of each tread slightly forward and makes the going deeper, without the staircase taking up more space. You notice it most on steeper staircases and in the winders.
Comfort and aesthetics
Z-stairs are not just more comfortable. Seen from the side, a rhythmic zigzag profile emerges that comes into its own against a clean white wall, or in an open stairwell. Combined with a continuous grain and seamless mitres, the staircase becomes an architectural feature.
As a new staircase or as cladding
The Z-tread is possible on a completely new custom staircase and with stair cladding. In dark wood such as wenge the profile becomes even more graphic, in light oak softer and calmer.

Not sure which type of staircase suits you best? We are happy to look at the options together.
